One of the most versatile Great Western Locomotives, This engine was the delight of the traffic department, as it could handle anything from local goods to mainline express. Designed in 1911 by H. Holcroft, one of the principal assistants in the Swindon drawing office under Mr Churchward, no less than 342 engines were built, and the first ten were the last engines to carry the Swindon works plate under the smokebox.
